We now show you the most impressive records in sports history. Photo: Terra - 8: Asked what the greatest dynasty in sports may be is always controversial, but no team has ever been able to match the streak of the Boston Celtics with 8 consecutive titles between 1959 and 1966. Photo: Getty Images
- 13: Just Fontaine had his career cut short due to a broken leg, but not before setting the record with 13 goals in a World Cup. Mind you, the highest career World Cup scorer in history is Ronaldo with 15 in three World Cups. Photo: Getty Images Fontaine believes Messi could break that mark in 2014.
- 17: They may have almost lost their distinction in 2007, but the 1972 Miami Dolphins remain the only American professional team to go undefeated in a season at 17-0. Photo: Getty Images
- 22: Michael Phelps became the best Olympian of all time with 22 medals in three Olympics, also doubling the record of gold medals with 18. Photo: Getty Images
- 56: One of the most revered records in sports is Joe Dimaggio's untouchable hitting streak. The Yankees legend holds the record with 56 straight games. The closest any one has come since was Pete Rose 44 straight games in 1978. Photo: Getty Images List of players with hitting streaks of over thirty games.
- 90: Lionel Messi just beat Gerd Muller 40-year old record of most goals in a calendar year. He has scored 90 goals in 2012. Photo: Getty Images
- 87: Julio Cesar Chavez was one of the "true greats" in boxing to reach 100 victories in his career, part of that stretch was an unprecedented 87 straight wins in his prime, going 90 straight fights without a loss (he had a draw against Pernell Whitaker.) Photo: Getty Images You can see his complete fight results here.
- 90: It may be college sports, but that in should no way diminish what the University of Connecticut Women's Basketball team did in winning 90 straight games. Photo: Getty Images
- 100: Walt Chamberlain is destined to always hold the NBA scoring record with 100 points against the New York Knicks in 1962, granted his teammates colluded to run up his numbers but he still did it against NBA defenders. Photo: Getty Images Almost as impressive as his 10,000 women.
- 2,632: Carl Ripken Jr.'s streak of 2,632 straight games played spanned 17 years and was ended voluntarily. Granted, baseball is hardly the most physical of sports, but imagine not taking a sick day in a 17 day career. Photo: Getty Images
