According to, the Colorado Rockies have traded right-handed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie to the Kansas City Royals for lefty Jonathan Sanchez.

Guthrie was 3-9 with a 6.35 ERA for the Rockies. He started the season in Colorado's rotation, but was demoted to the bullpen after losing six of his first nine decisions. He was moved back to the rotation earlier this month. Sanchez was acquired from Baltimore in an offseason trade.

Sanchez had similar struggles, as he was 1-6 with a 7.76 ERA in 12 starts for Kansas City before he was designated for assignment Tuesday.

Sanchez threw a no-hitter for the Giants in 2009 against San Diego, but he gave up seven runs in 1 1/3 innings in a loss to Seattle Monday, where he was roundly booed when he was finally pulled.

The move came one week after Melky Cabrera, the player the Royals traded to the Giants for Sanchez, was named MVP of the MLB All-Star Game.
