Two of the most popular teams in Mexican soccer will face off in the Clausura 2013final . America, first place in the regular season table, and Cruz Azul, fifth in the table, arrived without controversy to the liga MX final. Win a trip to a World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States Cruz Azul: This is the opportunity they have been waiting for, the best spot to vindicate themselves and end their 16-year title drought is against their bitter rival. The table is served, Cruz Azul has been the best team in the home stretch and hopes to stay stron gin the moment of truth. The Copa Mx final has liberated the side to appease their demons of seasons' lost to America. Now its time for revenge. America: The Aguilas have been doing well themselves. The most hated team in Mexico has the men necessary to end Cruz Azul's run. The team has not won the title since Clausura 2005 when they defeated Tecos 7-4 in the aggregate score. In their favor is home field advantage and the knowledge that they face a rival who has struggled in the big games. America is still searching for its 11th title to draw Chivas with the most. Duel on the bench: Herrera and Vasquez have shown they have the necessary character to make decisions for their teams. 'Piojo' has been laboring long with teams like Atlante and mOnterrey to win teams. Without a title, he will face heavy criticism from fans despite being the best team on paper. Memo Vasquez has already won titles, with Pumas in the league and Cruz Azul in the Copa, and despite not havin gthe same experience he can feel equal with Herrera. Players to watch: Christian Benitez: 'Chucho' was the top scorer of the tournament and Ligulla, with a strong attacking duo with Jimenez. His speed and dynamic with the ball could give America its dream of a title. Christian Gimenez: While Pavone, Barrera and Teofilo have taken off some of the pressure, 'Chaco' is still in charge of dictating play, order and progression for Cruz Azul. Prediction: Terra predicts a heated final, if something has exemplified the teams is that they hold nothing back, they are always willing to attack and look for the win. Without the away goal or position on the table mattering, Cruz Azul has the slight advantage, but America gets to close at home. We believe the champion will be wearing blue.

Guillermo Vasquez and Miguel Herrera will star in an interesting duel on the sidelines during the Clausura 2013 final. Despite 'Piojo' Herrera having more experience, memo has shown how to handle a team, in his short career he will play his second final, if you count the Copa MX. Win a trip to a World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States America had the better regular season tournament, but what matters is momentum, and Cruz Azul closed with an impressive rhythm, winning its last five matches and looking unbeatable in the Liguila. This may be the only advantage for Vasquez in what promises to be a very tight series. As a disciple of La Vope, Herrera has liked to focus on attack, but his style never got him the price. He lost two finals while at Monterrey (against Pumas and Toluca) and slowly left his attacking style for something more balanced. While America's strength its still its offense, it can laud an extremely ordered group, who can rely on its defense, if necessary, to win games. On the other hand, Memo's Cruz Azul is on fire. Due to their great offensive display, the team has scored left and right (nine goals in the Liguilla). Unlike America, whose attack is focused on Christian Benitez and Raul Jimenez, its never clear who will hold the scoring number for Cruz Azul from Mariano Pavone to Gerardo Florez, something that most keep Vasquez calm. During their league meetings, its been even: six matches, two wins for each and to draws. It would be no surprise if the championship team ended up winning in overtime, or penalties.
Javier Orozco scored twice in the opening 25 minutes as Cruz Azul defeated Santos 2-1 on Sunday for a 5-1 aggregate victory in their semifinal of the Liga MX tournament. Mexico City rivals Cruz Azul and America will meet in the final of Mexico's first division Clausura tournament after victories in weekend semifinals. Cruz Azul dominated against Santos Laguna, opening the scoring in the 8th minute when Orozco controlled the ball on the right side of the penalty area and shot past 'keeper Oswaldo Sanchez. Orozco scored again in the 25th when he converted from a right wing cross. Colombian Andres Renteria cut the margin in the 37th after he latched onto a through ball and finished from inside the penalty area. Santos' Darwin Quintero was sent off for pushing the ball into the net with his hand in the 51st and Panamanian Felipe Baloy followed him seven minutes later after receiving his second yellow card for an elbow. On Saturday, America's 2-1 win over Monterrey on Saturday gave them a 4-3 aggregate win. America would equal Chivas as Mexico's most successful team on 11 titles if it wins the Clausura final. Cruz Azul — also one of Mexico's "big four" clubs — is aiming for its first league win since 1997. In Saturday's match, America took the lead in the 63rd when Raul Jimenez converted from the penalty spot after Rubens Sambueza had been brought down in the area. Christian Benitez added America's second from close range eight minutes from the end, before Aldo de Nigris tapped in a consolation goal for Monterrey in injury time. Monterrey needed to win to advance after drawing Wednesday's first leg 2-2. The dates for the two stage final have not yet been set, but the first game is likely to be played Thursday, with the return on Sunday. The Aguilas seek their 11th title against the winner of the Cruz Azul-Santos semifinal, which will be played Sunday. Raul Jimenez scored the first goal on a penalty kick in the 64th minute, and Christian Benitez sealed the win with a goal in the 83rd minute. Aldo de Nigris scored Monterrey's lone goal in the 92nd minute. Win a trip to US-Mexico qualifier with Blackberry 10. America dominated the first half but could not find the back of the net, which favored Monterrey, since the club needed just a goal in Estadio Azteca to reach the final. In the 64th minute, Jose Maria Basanta was fouled in the area, and Jimenez finished with his penalty kick. Monterrey trainer Victor Manuel Vucetich responded by putting Neri Cardozo and Luis Guillermo Madrigal on the pitch to go for the goal.
Despite sitting out in Cruz Azul's 3-0 win over Santos Laguna in Torreon, Argentinean striker Mariano Pavone said he will play some minutes in the second leg. The 'Tank' Pavone, Cruz Azul's top scorer in the Clausura 2013 with ten goal in the regular season and two in the Liguilla, did not play the second half due to an injury to a tendon in his right leg so that manager Guillermo Vasquez and the medical director, Alfonso Jimenez, decided to rest him. Win a trip to the World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States "We will have the same criteria, to see how the recover is going, if I can do well but not risk. I am optimistic that I can at least be there a few minutes." The South American striker assured that he is calm after the performance his teammates had in the away leg against Santos where they won convincingly despite his absence. "It was a great game for the guys up front, we came at the right moment, the first came just as the game started so Santos could not get confident, then came the second by Pablito Barrera." "The third, even if it waas an own goal, gave us an important advantage, which is not definitive, but its an advantage tha tleft us happy with the result," he said. The striker stresed that despite the three goal advantage they got in Torreon, they can't be too confident: "Not fr me. It's an important advantage because Santos needs four goals and us not to score to advance." "We have to play the game as if we had drawn or lost, but we will try and win and gain more confidence," he concluded. With information from Notimex

Guillermo Vasquez, Cruz Azul manager, assured that he did not expct such a lopsided result against Santos, but revealed that the team must repeat its performance at Azul Stadium to reach the Clausura 2013 final. "I went out with the intention to win, to play a good game and play well; the intensity, passion and excution marked the game and that's how it should be," he said. Win a trip to the World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States "It was a great result, against a tough team, which has had a great season.
Two goals from Christian Benitez helped America secure a valuable draw at Monterrey in the first leg of the Liga MX semifinals in a vibrant game that finished 2-2 but could have gone to either team. Chilean Humberto Suazo opened the scoring with a spectacularly hit bending free kick in the 29th minute of the first half, only for Benitez to equalize five minutes into the second half. Twenty minutes later Benitez latched on to a low cross and evaded Monterrey goalie Juan de Dios Ibarra to slot home his second and give America the lead. After a shot rocketed off Ibarra's post, Monterrey came back to life through Aldo de Nigris who scored in the 74th minute to bring the game level again. In the remaining 15 minutes, both teams had chances to win the game with Suazo in particular coming close as he blasted a volley from inside the box that forced America goalkeeper Moises Munoz into the save of the game.
Tijuana's Xolos defeated Brazil's Palmeiras 2-1 in the Copa Libertadores round of sixteen second leg to book their ticket to the quarterfinals where they will face Atletico Mineiro and star Ronaldinho. The aggregate score was 2-1, after a scoreless draw in the first leg at the Estadio Caliente. Antonio Mohamed's pupils had a great game and were able to break the hegemony of Brazilians over Mexicans in the continental club tournament and now earned the right to face Ronaldinho in the next phase. Colombian striker Duvier Riascos opened the scoring in the 26th minute and midfielder Mexican Fernando Arce added the second in the 51st minute for the current Mexican champion. Souza cut the lead in half in the 61st minute, after a dubious penalty was whistled. Riascos' weak shot ffound the back of the net with the complicity of the goalkeeper Bruno. Win a trip to US-Mexico qualifier with Blackberry 10. In need of multiple goals, Palmeiras went into the despair and the game became rough to the point that eight players were booked in the first half by referee Venezuelan Juan Soto. In the beginning of the second half, Mohamed's team increased its lead through Arce, who pounced on a rebound from a shot from outside the area left no chance for Bruno. With six minutes left, Pablo Cesar Aguilar suffered expulsion, after his second yellow card.

Rayados imposed the curse of the superleader to Tigres with a 1-1 draw that eliminated the latter from the quarterfinals on a 2-1 aggregate score. In the 13th minute, Tigres went up on a superb goal from Danilinho who brought the ball down with his chest in the box, let it bounce and shot to the angle past Ibarra. Win a trip to the World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States But it all went downhill in the 33rd minute on an own goal by Israel Jimenez, who intercepted the ball past Palos to equalize 1-1, forcing Tigres to need two goals to overcome the away goal criteria. Since the start of the game, the hosts had possession of the ball before a Rayados team who tried to pressure form the start and looked to place itself solidly in defense. Monterrey was close to opening up the score when Chile's Humberto Suazo shot from long distance but the ball went just wide of the net defended by Enrique Palos. Regardless, Tigres continued to dominate the action and scored in the 13th minute when Carlos Salcido sent a through ball to Danilo Veron "Danilinho", who sent a left-footed shot to the angle to put Tigres ahead 1-0. The home team pressured and Lucas Lobos lost Jose Maria Basanta's mark but his shot went wide; emanuel Villa followed on a right-footed shot that hit the crossbar. Rayados had few scoring opportunities before Humberto Suazo attempted to cross into the box when Israel Jiemez, attempting to cear, sent the ball into his own net for the 1-1 score. After that, both teams fought to make themselves present, but the score was even at the half. In the second half, Tigres jumped forward on the attack and was close to scoring when Danilinho hit the post in the 49th minute. Monterrey responded in the 52nd minute, when Hiram Mier's long distance shot was saved by the post to keep Tigres in the game. The game was tense in the final minutes as both teams pushed forward, but neither had any clear scoring opportunities. Monterrey will face America in the semifinals.

America accomplished a spot in the final four of the Clausura 2013 with a 2-1 win over Pumas in Azteca Stadium for a final 3-1 in aggregation. Aguilas had little pity, with their first scoring opportunity through Christian Benitez coming in the first minute, finding himself in the area with his shot blocked by the defense. Win a trip to the World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States After a timid reaction by the visiting side, Miguel Layun got space on the left wing and crossed to Raul Jimenez, whose shot was blocked easily by Alejanro Palacios. The local side continued to push, while Pumas focused on defending. In the 17th minute, Pumas was further affected by an injury to David Cabrera, who was forced to leave with a knee injury. Regardless, the first opportunity fell to Jehu Chiapas, who came in for Cabrera, to cede the ball to Robin Ramirez for the volley beyond Moises Munoz for the 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. America closed out the first half more assertively, but almost allowed the 2-0 when Javier Cortes shot from outside the area just wide of Munoz' goal. In the second half, Pumas pressed forward looking for the second goal, but little by little America took back control of the match. In the 57th minute America gained some confidence off a corner kick which found Benitez inside the box who finished for the equalizer. Little by little, America pushed back and ceded the initiative back to Pumas. America had the opportunity to counter ont he counter attack. The clearest came in the 7th off the right wing, alone against Picolin who held off his shot. The second was in the 90th off a cross by Adrian Aldrete which left Benitez alone in front of an open net, but he kicked it over the goal. America's misses added some tension to the end of the match but 'Chucho' killed Pumas'hopes with a goal in the 94th minute for the 2-1 win.

The team co-owner signaled in an interview with Bloomberg that the Mexican franchise, including Chivas USA and Omnilife Stadium, is not worth $500 million as previously stated. "We are probably among the top five teams in earnings in the world. Combining everything (Chivas, Omnilife and Chivas USA), the team would be worth 750-800 million dollars," commented Fuentes. Asked about the negotiations that the Chivas officials have had with Carlos Slim to sell the team, unveiled by a report from Record, Jorge Vergara's wife assured that Omnilife has no intentions of selling the team. Despite that, going by Fuentes' calculations that would make Chivas a franchise worthy of more than the value given to Juventus and Manchester City by Forbes. The team could also increase its value in the coming years when it signs a new television rights deal.
In a game delayed twenty mintues due to a power outage in Azteca Stadium, Mariano Pavone's brace lead Cruz Azul to a 4-2 win over Morelia in the first leg of the Clausura 2013 quarterfinals. Morelia was the first to throw the first stone in the second minute when Hector Mancilla scored on a superb header to make the score 1-0. Win a trip to the World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States The visitors continued to dominate in the following fifteen minutes, pushing forward as Cruz Azul failed to find its footing on the field. Cruz Azul scored against the run of play when Pavone found the ball inside the box, turned and finished to equalize for the home side. After that, the home side pressed forward with Teofilo Gutierrez and Pavone having clear scoring opportunities before halftime. In the second half, Pavone found the ball in front of goal but Gutierrez got in his way and the ball went over the goal. In the 52nd minute, Teofilo Gutierrez received a great ball inside the box on an assist from Alejandro Castro, one of the breakouts this season for Cruz Azul. Six minute later, Christian "Chacon" Gimenez took advantage of a defensive error to shoot inside the box to the far post to give the local side a 3-1 lead. In the 72nd minute, the lights in the left side of the stadium went out, causing a twenty minute delay in the game. Jesus Corona, who was a hero throughout the game with five key saves, lost his cool when the game was called and began antagonizing the Morelia's players before his teammates could pull them apart. The game was restarted in the 90th minute and Morelia seemed to have taken advantage of the break to recover momentum, with only Corona's key saves keeping them from cutting the lead. It was once again Pavone against play, on a superb volley off a cross by Javier Orozco. Just as it seemed Cruz Azul would take a commanding 4-1 lead to the second leg. Morelia got an important goal from Carlos Ochoa who had a point blank shot deflected by Corona which saw the rebound still sneak into the goal for the final 4-2 scoreline. The second leg will be played in Morelia at Morelos Stadium on Sunday at 7 p.m. EST.

Xolo Tijuana routed Chivas 4-0 to close out the Clausura 2013 seasonw ith goals from Bruno Piceno, Duvier Riascos, Richard Ruiz and Fidel Martinez at Caliente Stadium. With the result, Xolos has 21 points, while Chivas has 16. Both teams are eliminated from the Liguilla. Win a trip to a World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the United States The goal of the defending champions was to go out in style, to end a run of eight games without a win. In front of them was a team that showed nothing throughout the tournament, and within the first 45 minutes the game was already decided in Xolos' favor. An early shot from Miguel Sabah that forced a save from Cirlo Saucedo seemed to foreshadow a more even match, but Tijuana began dominating in the 20th minute. The Chivas catastrophe began on a throw in by Richard Ruiz which found Bruno Piceno for a one-time shot to make the score 1-0. The score ended any resistance from Chivas, who saw the second goal come on a through ball to Duvier Riascos, who came in through the two center backs and shot a low shot close to the post in the 32nd minute. The last five minutes of the half served to consolidate what was already clear: Richard Ruiz had the third in the 41st and the fourth from Fidel Martinez in the 45th. The fifth goal came in the early stages of the second half, but the official had pity and called a non-existent foul to annul the goal. Chivas never responded, despite various changes in the lineup by Benjamin Galindo. Marco Fabian de la Mora made his return but it was not enough for the team to recover its earlier form.

The General Consumer's Office is after America. The director general, Jesus Rangel Espinoza, said that America could be fined after Tigres fans complained that they had been discriminated against after ticket prices for Saturday's game skyrocketed in just minutes. Rangel explained that there is an investigation over the ticket increase. The Office indicated that if an irregularity is found there could be a fine over of over $300,000. Win a trip to a World Cup qualifier between Mexico and the USA "The owners of events can set their prices, they are not regulated, but here the importance is not the price but that at first it as sold at one price ($10) then in a matter of minutes those in line were charged $97. This has been the complaint. We will ask America to explain its variation in ticket price to determine if we can intervene". America is accused of increasing ticket prices to block a planned 'invasion' by Tigres fans at Azteca Stadium on Saturday. "We have to collect the information and as part of the investigation see what we can prove. We will have to organize a fin that can go from $50 to $300,000," he told RECORD. Jesus Rangel explained that the complaint was brought up in Monterrey, by Tigres fans, preventing the sale of tickets from the venue with the irregularity. "In Monterrey, on the first there were tickets sold out of Ticketmaster in a pharmacy, someone got the first price then the next in price was $97, this provoked the complaint," said the official who explained that 25 people had lodged the complaint. "They went to the point of sale and asked for an explanation and did not get one. The activity by Ticketmaster was suspended regarding tickets for the match." Earlier, America manager Miguel Herrera stressed that his team had no involvement in the ticket controversy.

Mexico has two of the highest-paid players in America. According to Forbes magazine Humberto Suazo (Monterrey) and Christian Benitez (America) are in the Top Ten of players who receive the highest salaries on the continent. Suazo is placed sixth, earning $3 million, while Benitez is 10th at $2.7 million annually. Also on the list are names like Neymar (Santos), at $7 million; Thierry Henry (Red Bulls), $5.6 million; Luiz Fabiano (Sao Paulo), $4.6 million, Clarence Seedorf (Botafogo), $3.6 million; Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy) $3.4 million; in seventh Diego Forlan (Inter de Porto Alegre) $3 million; Alexander Pato (Corinthians) and Paolo Guerrero $3 million each. El Chucho rounds out the list with the amount listed above. It is noteworthy that in the area of maximum wage in American leagues, Brazil and the United States are above Mexico. The South Americans have six of the 10 highest-paid American players, so falls the idea that Mexico is the "Paradise of America," as it is clear that the Brazilian clubs have the money to distribute to players. In United States, the MLS made almost $10 million in payments to Henry and Keane of Ireland. The fourth country that has better maximum salary in America is Argentina at $1.5 million, followed by Paraguay at $800,000, Colombia at $667,584, Ecuador at $500 000, Chile at $457 870, and Peru $300,000 and Bolivia $240,000 to each player. According to the Forbes report, annual payroll in Liga MX reaches $84 million (not counting sponsorships and other income) so the tendency is to continue to increase the cost of the players, since the 2004 Claudio "El Piojo" López signed with America for $1.8 million, at that time the highest paid in Mexico, and currently "El Chupete" is bagging $3 million. Forbes recently released the list of the 10 highest-paid players in Liga MX, however, in his recent publication Forbes unveils five others who make up the list of the 15 who earn the highest wages in the country. Thos players are Rafael Marquez (León, $1.9 million), Oribe Peralta (Santos, $1.5 million annually) Mariano Pavone (CFruz Blue, $1.5 million), Luis Perez (Chivas, $1.2 million) and Daniel Hachita Ludueña (Pachuca, $1.2 million dollars annually).
