According to Yahoo sports, Lionel Messi revealed that his teammates in Barcelona's La Masia youth club thought he was dumb initially.
"Cesc Fabregas told me that when I was little, I dressed in silence and they thought I was dumb," the 25-year-old told Hungarian magazine Kepes Sport. "Now I am more open, and not so shy in the locker room as it was before in La Masia."
Messi has come a long way from those humble beginnings, as he scored a record 73 goals in 60 appearances last season, and helped Barca to four titles.
The Argentine, who admitted he didn't watch any Euro 2012 matches, was flattered by Neymar's recent comments that Messi was "the best in the world."
"I am very grateful for the comments of Neymar about me," Messi said. "It is always nice when it comes from another player."
Messi starts training with Barca Monday, and the first friendly is against Hamburg July 24.
