How I became friends with Pep Guardiola

I was surprised by Pep Guardiola’s decision to coach Bayern Munich next season. I think very few imagined the Catalan coach managing in Germany but surely he must have good reasons to coach there. There will be great expectation to see how the Bavarian team plays, which in typical German practice is based more on speed and the long pass. It will be very interesting to see if Guardiola will change Bayern’s style and make it closer to how Barcelona plays.

Indeed, I was fortunate to play against Guardiola in Clausura 2006 when he played with my current team, Dorados, and I played with America. Dorados won the match and I remember one of the goals came from a great pass from Pep.

Dorados made the great gesture of giving Guardiola a jersey in which I wrote a message. I know Pep since a couple years back when I toured with America in Europe, through a friend of mine in Valladolid, Eusebio Sacristán, who was an assistant coach in Barcelona, and since then I have a good relationship with the new Bayern coach. I wish him great success in his new phase.

America had a very good game last Saturday against Atlante. The “Aguilas” were a team that was very superior against the “Potros,” who did not put up much resistance and succumbed easily against the onslaught of the “Azulcremas.”

I would like to highlight the good performance of Rubens Sambueza who has had a good start in the tournament. Hopefully, that performance is a constant since the Argentine, and the reinforcements brought by America, will help so the team does not depend so much on Ecuardorian Christian Benitez, who constantly has to carry the offensive load, giving the club alternative attacking options.

Watching the performance of Atlante in Clausura 2013, where they have not obtained a point yet, it’s clear that the team did not strengthen its squad well for this tournament, and if they continue playing in this manner, they will be fighting to avoid relegation soon.

Finally, I want to tell you this Wednesday I officially return to the pitch in the match between my team and Atlante in the Copa MX. Most likely I will play some minutes that will help me get into a good rhythm and that way I can play a little more against Altamira Saturday.

Until next week and don’t forget … eat fruits and vegetables.
