The massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, has elicited support from much of the world, including the sports community.

The latest team to make a concrete effort to help the families after the disaster is the MLS' Houston Dynamo which will prepare a "Soccer Night" in the Connecticut city on January 7.

For those wondering why it is a Texas team planning the event, and not one of the few teams in the New England area, it has to do with general manager, Chris Canetti, who is a Connecticut native.

"I think we have to find a way to help and lend a hand," Canneti told FOX 26. "We've figured out a small way to help this community which happens to be a very, very rich youth soccer community.

Many of the Dynamos stars, including Brian Ching, Ricardo Clarke, Corey Ashe and Tally Hall have already been confirmed for the event.

"It'll be a fan festival type of event, taking photos, signing autographs. The idea is to give the kids a chance to come out, have some fun, have some memories and take a diversion from the difficult realities that they're facing now."
