Pablo Barrera scored off a set piece to draw with Leon and save Cruz Azul from its first defeat in the Estadio Azul.

Luis Montes opened up the score for Leon and ended a 250-minute goal drought at the stadium during the Apertura 2012 season.

Despite not winning at home so far in the season, Cruz Azul rises to the fourth spot in the general table while Leon takes the second spot.

The first half had dangerous approaches from both teams with great intensity, but neither Cruz Azul nor Leon could open up the scoreboard. Mariano Pavone kept heading wide, Loboa going for stylish scissor kicks.

Faced with one of the best defenses in the league, Leon could not muster a goal until the 69th minute off a play by Carlos Pena that left Sebastian Maz open in the area. He touched the ball to Luis Montes to finish the play and give the team the 1-0 lead.

The joy was short-lived as Pablo barrera surprised Meliton Hernandez off a free kick in the 73rd minute to tie the match.

Cruz Azul will next face Pumas in the young "Clasico" of the capital while Leon will face undefeated Morelia.
