Lobos BUAP, Correcaminos and Dorados, of the Promotional League, defeated their first division rivals Toluca, Queretaro and Leon, respectively, on Tuesday night in the first leg of the Copa MX tournament.
The most shocking result was the comeback win by Lobos as they defeated Toluca by a dominant 3-1 result.
Toluca, who used many elements of the first team, went ahead 1-0 with a goal by the Paraguayan Edgar Benitez (28). Once down in the score, Lobos replied with a hat trick by the Brazilian Aparecido de Lima (43, 54, 65).
Queretaro, who debuted in the league with a loss, also got off to a negative start in the Cup after losing 2-1 to Correcaminos.
The team from Tamaulipas got the lead with ta goal by goalkeeper Ivan Vazquez on a free kick. Roberto Nurse (64) made the second goal with a header. Luis Landin managed to cut the lead for Gallos Blancos in the 84th minute.
Dorados made their home field advantage felt in Banorte stadium with a tight 2-1 win over Leon. The star in the victory was the veteran Cuauhtemoc Blanco who scored (58) and gave an assist for the Colombian Daley Mena (68). Leon made the end exciting with a goal by the Uruguayan Matias Britos (84).
The only first division team that managed a win on Tuesday was Jaguares who defeated Necaxa 1-0 on a goal by Antonio Salazar (77) in Victor Manuel Reyna Stadium.
In Morelos Stadium, Morelia tied Estudiantes 1-1. Monarcas got off with the start on a goal by Carlos Ochoa (55). Estudiantes got the draw on a goal by Eduardo Lillingston (57).
The first leg of matches will continue on Wednesday while the second leg will begin next week. The winner of the two legs will get a point in the group classification.
