
The injury woes continue for Rafael Marquez, as he had a sad debut in the Copa Libertadores after suffering a muscle contraction in his left leg that forced him to leave the game between Leon and Deportes Iquique of Chile.
Marquez, who was signed by the Mexican team for the Clausura 2013 and the Copa Libertadores, was injured at the start of the match and was subbed out after ten minutes.
Shortly after the game, the club announced that Marquez will also miss the week 4 Clausura 2013 game against Santos on Friday.
Marquez, 33, arrived from the New York Red Bulls where he had seen diminished action due to msucular injuries. He lived the best time of his career while playing with Barcelona between 2003 and 2010.
With the Mexican national team, Marquez competed in the Korea-Japan 2002, Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010 World Cups as well as the Copa America in Paraguay 1999, Colombia 2001, Peru 2004 and Venezuela 2007.
