In an interview given to Brazilian newspaper O Estado do Sao Paulo, Pelé gave some advise to Santos star Neymar saying he should play for Barcelona, but also criticized him for his performance with the national team
Pelé said that Neymar is at a great level with Santos but lives a different situation with Brazil. "On the national team he is a normal player. He has no international experience. He’s an excellent player, but with no experience outside. Whenever he plays outside Brazil he doesn’t do well. Everyone say he must solve his problems with the national team but he is not prepared for that. European soccer is different from Latin, " he explained.
O Rei continued to point out things Neymar is more worried about instead of focusing in playing soccer. "In Santos we say that he is the best in the world, but he cares more about appearing in the media than to play for the team. Neymar has a big responsibility. But his concern is to change his style, or his hair cut."
Pelé has very clear which team should Neymar go if he decides to play in Europe: "The problem is not which he should go, the problem is to get there in a good condition to play. Soccer is tougher in England, Germany or Italy. Referees are used to let the game continue. Barcelona would be ideal for him. Santos needs him and that’s why I think he should not leave, but if he has to go, he must go to Barça,” he said.
