Published reports say Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could return to the field against Liverpool Sunday.
Rooney has been sidelined since he suffered a severe gash to is right leg in United's 3-2 win over Fulham Aug. 25.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney was not close to returning in Wednesday's Champions League victory over Galatasaray and denied he would be ready to face Liverpool.
But Rooney has been training in Carrington since last week, looking lighter than earlier this season, and he is expected to be available.
Rooney's only start of the season came in the opener, which United lost 1-0 to Everton.
