World number 1 and 2012 Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka wil try to defend here title.

The Belarusian player will face Romanian Monica Nicolescu in fist round.

Maria Sharapova is the second seed in the tournament and will try to repeat the title she won in 2008.

Sharapova beat her compatriot Olga Puchova in the first round and will play Japanese Misaki Doi in second round..

American Serena Williams in the number 3 seed of the tournament.

The youngest of the Williams sisters will try to win her sixth Australian Open title.

No. 4 seed, Polish Agnieska Radwanska, will try to advance past the Quarterfinals for the first time in the tournament.

Radwanska will beat  in first round agains Austrlian Bojana Bobusic and will play Irina Camelia-Begu of Romania

Germany's Angelique Gerber, is the fifth seed. She won over Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in the first round.

Gerber will try to advance past the third round for the first time in the tournamen.

Sixth seed Chinese Na Li, who was finalist in 2011 wants the title this time.

Li beat Kazakhstan's Sesil Karatantcheva in first round and will play Belarus Olga Govortsova in second round.

Seventh seed, Italy's Sara Errani, will seek to advance past the quarterfinals which is where she lost last year.

Errani will play Spain's Carla Suárez Navarro in first round

Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic is the 8th seed. She will play veteran Italian Francesca Schiavone.

Kvitova advanced to the semifinals last year.

Australian favorite Smantha Stosur is the 9th seed.

Stosur's best finish at the Australian Open was in 2006 and 2010 where she advanced to the 4th round.

No 10 seed, Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki will play her sixth Australian Open.

Wozniacki's best performance was in 2011 when she advanced to the semifinals.
